Waiting for the weather to be right - On attend une bonne fenêtre météo

Thursday Dec 6th - We will stay moored in Los Olas Marina in Fort Lauderdale waiting for the weather window to make our run to North Bimini, Bahamas. Today we enjoyed the warm sun and walked over to the beach for a long walk in the sand and surf. SOOO good to feel beach sand (as opposed to road sand hehehe) under our feet.
A fuel barge pulled into the mooring and offered to top up our diesel tanks. I thought that they only offered this service to motor yachts and not sailboats. Anyway I jumped at the chance as did Sagwa. Well little did we know that this would turn int a 2 hour affair. The barge pulled along side and the man on board was certainly killing time or looking for friends.... talk talk talk, 10 minutes to fill the tank then talk talk talk, call the office with the credit card info ... Oh my ... he was pleasant but sooooo slow. It would have been so much faster to take the boat over to the marina and refuel it there. Just too funny.
We had a very ironic event on board, yesterday Maryse asked if I had any friends that lived in the any of the huge homes or boats that we saw yesterday. I responded that no I didn't. Out of the blue I received an email from Eric and Annie - long time friends. After a lot of hard work, Eric made Captain on a private motor yacht and Annie is the galley and entertainment specialist (you know that her work list it 10 times longer than that!) they invited us aboard for a fantastic evening laughs and conversation and dinner. Thanks guys!!!!

Friday Dec 7th - Checked the weather again this morning and it confirms what Eric kindly shared last night with us. We will leave for Bimini during the very early hours of Sunday morning. I also completed my navigation calculations with Maryse pulling out her Power Squadron course material to confirm we are on target. Started to list the things we need to do before heading out - tomorrow will be busy as we knock things off the list.

Saturday Dec 8th - Shopping day today - lucky for us, Michel and Lines friends have lent them a car for the day and so we are off to the Mega West Marine store for fishin' lures and a book to help us rookies identify them as well as a bunch of items that I just know I will need! Could barely get the trunk closed at the West Marine store so run back to the marina and load all our goodies into the skiff and pile them on board. Next stop the wine store - I don't know why but I think we may just need some! Last stop is the grocery store where we make one last purchase of all the things that are either expensive or hard to find in the Bahamas. Maryse got everything put away and I did one last check of teh weather and shared the navigation calculations with Sagwa. Early in bed as we will off at 1AM in the morning!

Il fait beau, j'ai pris quelques belles photos du levé de soleil.

Le matin du 6 décembre 

Nous restons pour quelques jours au mouillage de la marina de Los Olas de Ft-Lauderdale. Nous attendons la fenêtre idéale pour traverser au nord de Bimini dans les Bahamas.

À pied nous sommes à quelques minutes de la plage. Aujourd'hui nous irons prendre une longue marche sur la plage.

Levé du soleil au matin du 6 décembre

Nous n'avons pas eu à déplacer le bateau pour mettre du diesel, une grosse barge se promène et vend son diesel à qui en a besoin. Le monsieur conduisant cette barge était bien gentil mais il n'arrêtait pas de parler de parler, un vrai moulin à paroles, je regardais Merrill lui tenir conversation tout en espérant que ça finisse, je crois que ça aurait été plus vite de se déplacer à la marina... (hihihihi)

Concert de cornemuse

En fin de jounée nous avons eu droit à un petit concert de cornemuse.














Merrill connaît beaucoup de gens, j'espérais pouvoir visiter une de ces luxueuses maisons, mais hélas, il ne connaissait personne ayant une de ces maisons. Cependant dans la journée, Merrill a reçu un courriel de ces amis Annie et Eric qui travaille sur un méga yacth, ils étaient en ville et ils nous ont invité à se joindre à eux pour le souper. A défaut de visiter une belle maison, nous avions la chance de visiter un superbe Yacth de 110 pieds de long. Encore merci Annie et Eric pour cette belle soirée.

Vendredi 7 décembre
Michel, Merrill et Patrick du bateau Rouma sont allés faire emplir les réservoirs de propane.
Line est venue me chercher pour aller prendre un marche pendant que les gars étaient partis. Elle se débrouille bien avec le dinghy.
En après-midi Merrill et moi avons fait nos devoirs en préparant la route pour se rendre au Bimini,
Merrill avait eu de l'information d'Eric et de Richard de plus j'avais mon livre du cours que j'avais suivi le printemps dernier à bord donc nous avons pu contre vérifier nos calculs. On est prêt pour partir, il ne reste qu'à faire les dernières vérifications et un brin d'épicerie demain.


Samedi 8 décembre
Quelle chance!! Line et Michel ont des amis qui leur ont prêté une voiture, ce qui veut dire pas de trajet à faire à pied ou en taxi, Merrill était bien content.

Un premier arrêt au gros West Marine, le "Toy R us" pour les gens de bateaux!
Arrêt no 2, le magasin de vin, il nous faut faire des réserves pour les Bahamas, il semblerait que bien des produits ne sont pas disponibles.
Le dernier arrêt a été l'épicerie. La voiture est pleine, il y a du stock partout!!
Ce sera l'opération, on range tout au retour.

En fin de journée, pendant que j'étais à la salle de lavage, Merrill a discuté avec Michel et Line concenant le trajet que nous ferons au cours de la nuit. Le départ est prévu pour 1h00 du matin.

À mon retour on faisait une dernière vérification de la météo, ça va brasser un peu mais il ne sera pas possilbe d'ouvrir les voiles étant donné qu'on aura le vent sur le nez.
